You may receive sweet treats or feel inclined to indulge in sweet treats this Valentines Day! It is quite hard to miss all the goodies. The most popular are always the chocolate goodies!
Contrary to popular belief the right kind of chocolate can be beneficial. Try to have no more than 4oz at maximum of a good 70% dark cocoa in a week. You can benefit from some feel good hormones, flavonoids and magnesium that help with blood pressure.
Here are some tips on how to use chocolate to beat the sugar rush without guilt this Valentines Day:
1) Make a delicious chocolate avocado mousse! Try my favorite go to recipe from http://www.gimmesomeoven.com/dark-chocolate-avocado-mousse/ . Not only will you get some healthy fats, you will get some fibre and loads of vitamins and minerals you otherwise would not find in a chocolate mousse. Easy and quick to zip up in under 10minutes!
2) Indulge in 70% or more cocoa squares and use these to make your own strawberry dipped chocolate treats for the week. You can freeze a bunch ahead of time and keep them ready to go when you are tempted to dive into a chocolate box. Just choose a good quality chocolate of choice, melt the chocolate, coat your strawberries in the melted chocoalte, place the berries on some parchment paper or wax paper and freeze! Voila you will have quality guilt free desserts to snack on for the week! The strawberries can take up to 6 hrs to freeze.
3) Whip up some good old fashioned hot cocoa with a mix of coffee and coco powder in a 1:1 ratio, add a dash of your favorite flavored cream, cinnamon and fresh nutmeg. You can’t go wrong with this one as you would feel great without all the extra unwanted calories 🙂 You can also swap out dairy milk for coconut milk or almond milk to change the flavor of your cocoa.
I really hope you enjoy these guilt free ideas over Valentines.
